Yorktown, VA
Early fall in 1781, Cornwallis and his troops laid camp and prepared for a siege. Fortunately for the history of the United States, Cornwallis was defeated in what would be the last major battle of the Revolutionary War. Yorktown also saw battle in 1862 when General McClellan began his Peninsula Campaign to capture Richmond.

These photos taken July 25, 2002 at the Thomas Nelson House. The Nelson family was very influential and settled in York County in 1711. The Nelson family contributed large sums of money to the patriot cause. Thomas Nelson, jr. was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. The house also served as a hospital during the Civil War for both the North and South. People talk of sudden gusts of wind blowing through the halls, hearing voices in conversation, wounded men moaning, and seeing windows open up.
