History: Fisher's Hill was called the Gibraltar of the Confederacy.  Confederate Lt. Gen. Jubal Early met Union Maj. Gen. Philip Sheridan and was outmaneuvered by Sheridan.  The Confederate defeat opened the Shenandoah Valley to Union advance. Union Casualties- Killed: 36 Wounded: 414 Missing: 6  Confederate Casualties- Killed: 30 Wounded: 210 Missing: 995 Many of the Confederate missing were captured by the Union Army.
